Hi all, thank you for a great forum.
Would like to ask you which of the countries Panama or Costa Rica you can recomend for relocating to? We are a swedish couple, and based on the following requirements, which of them should we go for?
1. Simplyness for Visa /become a resident
2. Buying a property
3. Start a small business
4. General life, cost of living etc.
I´ve done research about the above mentioned countries, and i know their separate rules etc, but have a hard time choosing between them!

I think that everything is better in Costa Rica except that everything here is more expensive.

I own land in CR, but have read a bit about Panama and it certainly competes. Same quality health care. Booming in Panama City. Cheaper land. They are working very hard to attract retirees, so I believe they are easy to move to. As a "pensioner" you get lots of discounts. Also, $10,000 of crap can be imported duty free when you move there. That is much better than CR!

You must GO there to see and experience the difference. I, too, was very interested in Panama - it all sounds so good on paper. But then I went there and after only 4 days there I knew I did not want to live there. Just SOME of my observations: Panama is almost like a Police State. Stopping cars for checkpoints on the highways, in towns... Border police are jerks who can and will harrass you... The people aren't as friendly - in general - as in CR... Panama does not have nearly as much forest in general - yes, they do have a LOT of forest - but it tends to be more "hidden away", not everywhere you look like in CR... The weather isn't as good in general. It does not have the "personality" CR has. On the positive side: Yes, things are cheaper in Panama. Yes, the highways are better. I'm staying with Costa Rica! _________________ "Wherever you go, there you are." |
