 import taxes autos
I am planning to move to Costa Rica within the next 12 months and have friends that have lived there for the past 15 years.
From an economic standpoint, is it more beneficial to buy a vehicle there or import and pay the tax. Could this minimize the tax?
One of my friends just paid around $8,000 for a 10 year old Subaru he brought in; cost of vehicle was around $10,000, but it is in mint condition
His feeling is that you can add four or five years to a car driven in C.R. because of the bad road conditions? Any thoughts?
Also,where can you obtain the tax rates for the type of vehicle you want to bring in?

 Re: import taxes autos
When I last checked the tax rates were about 75% which sold me on buying a vehicle in Costa Rica. You can find many good vehicles if you take your time. We have a 1999 Hyundai Galloper 4wd 7 passenger which we paid about $13,000 for in excellent condition. Check www.arcr.net

 Re: import taxes autos
I HAVE DRIVEN TWICE, BEST DEAL IS SHIP YOUR CAR WHICH IS NOT EXPENSIVE, UNDER $600 FROM ANY PORT IN FLORIDA TO LIMON, Costa Rica,
THEN FLY THERE FOR ABOU $350 FROM MOST MAJOR CITY. It is cost effective, safer,more enjoyable etc,etc.
Best spend the big bucks you be saving on the beach!
Second, Gas is expensive and a 99 neon will be most economical for you there. Get a life and go first class for nickle and dimes.
Now every year I go there ship my car with shis reliable comapny who has never failed til now, their website is WWW.COSTARICAAUTOSHIPPER.COM , THEN I party there for three months straight and then sell my car to the locals with a nice profit and have the doe READY for next year!
Take it from a pro!

 Re: import taxes autos
Are you telling me that if you ship your car to CR, you don't have to pay the taxes on the car?
