Post Moving to Costa Rica soon
I am a retired Firefighter living in Key West Florida. It's just getting too expensive here. I have a pension and would like to retire, for real, in Costa Rica. Anyone ever hear of Las Lomas townehomes in Jaco? Looks good to me but?ConfusedConfused? I hear Jaco is a nice place. HELP!

Hi Jozzero,
i have lived here for over 15 years and would be glad to help.
My impression of Jaco is generally dim,
they have a lot of problems due to drugs and
general growing pains.

My suggestion to you is this;
find a place where you can rent for a while,
say 6 mos, get a car and travel around
and find your spot.

It takes some time to see all there is to see
and get your bearings and see what is best for you.

I would never buy without spending at least 6 mos here.

We have a home we rent which you can see at
www.dearbetty.com

this is a fully furnished, safe, secluded, home
with all the amenities, linens, appliances, etc.
And we live next door and can help you get acclimated.

but there are many many options waiting for you,
the world is yours !

best of luck,
Dianne

Thanks, Diane. I am actually arriving there on the 19th of this month. I have an appt. to look at a house in Puerta Viejo. Ever been there? Thanks, Joe.

I've been to Puerto Viejo, assuming that's the little town on the South Caribbean coast. I'd describe it as, well, Caribbean. Think, little town in Jamaica, locals hanging out smoking Ganga (I don't think I'm spelling that right). The Caribbean side of Costa Rica is pretty dead. I wouldn't call the Pacific side as really busy either.

BTW, I agree with the previous poster about Jaco - never been, but I've heard it's a little seedy. If I were going to retire to Costa Rica, I'd probably do it somewhere on the Pacific Coast, but Jaco would probably be my last choice on the Pacific coast.

FYI, I'm by no means an expert on Costa Rica, but I might be moving there (in the San Jose area for a job).

I'm beach lover but never been to Costa Rica. I spend most of beach trip in Asia like Philippines and Thailand. How different is Costa Rica? Anyone? I'd like to know more bout this place for a new beach experience.

I agree that you need to spend at least 6 months and I would say to a year to get to know Costa Rica before you invest in anything. You have so many options to choose from. Take your time and look around and find the perfect place . There are a lot of things to consider when living at the beach vs. the Central Valley like shopping and health care options.
