Post Roads in early wet season
Am coming to CR in late May for a month, my big dilemma is the fact that I want a car to drive to the surf etc, but am travelling on my own, and so a 4x4 will work out v. expensive. Does anybody know whether driving {Tamarindo down to Avellanes, Nosara etc, then across to the ferry to Puntarenas,} is possible without 4x4 in May/June? What about further south to Manuel Antonio/Dominical? If anyone is in a similar position and on their own, looking to do some surfing in May/June, and wants to meet for a few beers, let me know. Thanks, Dave

Dave, I've been to Domincal/MA in wet season. We had a 4x4, but we could have made it fine in a car (lots bumpier though). There is still a BAD stretch of gravel road to get to Dominical. Nosara has steep hills but it always seems dry up there evenduring "wet season".

Hi Dave: We have driven from Jaco to Dominical in October/November (green season) in a standard car without any problems at all. There are potholes, just drive slowly (as do most people down that road) and avoid the holes. Part of the road had been graded but half was pretty rough - still no problems. In fact, because we were travelling slowly, we saw some sloths with their new babies, quite near the roadside. I'm glad we didn't zoom down there. We would have missed them otherwise. Have a great trip.
