 Selling a car/Driving
First, I am thinking about driving to Costa Rica, anyone out there done this recently. I'd love to here about costs, saftey, etc. Let me know if I'm out of my mind.
Second, If I drive down I might be interested in Selling my car and fying out. My car is a 99 neon. Get's great mileage, not that many miles on it (yet!)

 Re: Selling a car/Driving
Merlady, Check out Alan Weisbeckers book titled In Search of Captain Zero. Its the story of his journey from New Jersey to Costa Rica. It is a detailed account of his travels down the Baja penninsula, through El Salvador, Nicaragua and such. Sounds pretty sketchy but hey, you only live once and if you make it you may decide to also write your own book.
Good Luck, Luke Hamilton

I have been all over Costa Rica in this thing and done a lot of work on it along the way. Moving back to the States in April and need to sell. We are based out of Santa Teresa on the Necoya Peninsula. If you are going to be in Costa Rica for any length of time this is your ticket will haul at least 10 boards and can sleep a few with back seat folded down and will Carrie 5 people

Hey we need to sell our honda accord ASAP. With california plates. Drove over the border a month ago and have to run back to the States. Any suggestions? Anyone know the bureaucracy involved?
Thanks, Kerren

 Re: Selling a car/Driving
Yep - the bureaucracy is HUGE; since most people won't be interested in buying a car without costa rican license plates, you have to get it nationalized. That means you have to pay import taxes.
Import taxes for cars in CR are between 60 - 80% of the value; the older the car the higher the percentage of the import tax.
A friend of mine brought a 1995 Jeep from the US which he had bought for $ 10 000.-
It took him three months to get it nationalized and he ended up paying $ 8000.- in taxes.
Saludos,
Andy

 Re: Selling a car/Driving
I HAVE DRIVEN TWICE, BEST DEAL IS SHIP YOUR CAR WHICH IS NOT EXPENSIVE, UNDER $600 FROM ANY PORT IN FLORIDA TO LIMON, Costa Rica,
THEN FLY THERE FOR ABOU $350 FROM MOST MAJOR CITY. It is cost effective, safer, more enjoyable etc, etc.
Best spend the big bucks you be saving on the beach!
Second, Gas is expensive and a 99 neon will be most economical for you there. Get a life and go first class for nickle and dimes.
Now every year I go there ship my car with shis reliable comapny who has never failed til now, their website is WWW.COSTARICAAUTOSHIPPER.COM , THEN I party there for three months straight and then sell my car to the locals with a nice profit and have the doe READY for next year!
Take it from a pro!
