Turtle viewing and fishing and rain

Postby JeffRome » Mar 2, 2012, 7:50 am

Hi! My wife and I want to see sea turtles nesting and/or hatching. And I'd like to do some fishing as well--tarpon/snook on the Caribbean side or Roosterfish on the pacific side. And see some rainforest/wildlife as well. We've been to Costa Rica before and hit the major tourist areas. But would like to do something a little different this time.
From doing some research, I see that the best time to view turtles is during the rainy season. Greens and leatherbacks in the Tortuguero area and Green Ridley's in the Osa Peninsula area. We were thinking of maybe September. While in the Osa area we'd also take in the Corcorado National Park.

What is the weather like in September??Is it raining ALL the time or is it sporadic? Does it affect you ability to get out?
What would Corcorado be like during September?
Any idea of the fishing during that time in the Caribbean (for Tarpon) or Osa (for Roostertail)? Thanks!

September is rainy. You might consider Playa Grande as well. You can see the leatherbacks nest there and avoid the rainy season. The roads are also much better than trying to get into the Osa.

If you go the Osa in the rainy season, you will need a 4x4 with good ground clearance.

Playa Grande is great for Leatherbacks, the "Arribadas" at Ostional are absolutely amazing as well. Here is a good article about turtle viewing in Costa Rica - http://tvpuravida.com/the-sea-turtles-o ... -rica.html
