La Fortuna, Costa Rica
The town of La Fortuna is located just a few miles east of the volcano Arenal.
The small city with about 8000 inhabitants and tourist infrastructure is an ideal starting point to explore the famous volcano Arenal, the lake Arenal and the surrounding area.
The city with the official name of "La Fortuna de San Carlos" offers hotels, restaurants, shops, bank, post office,tour offices,canopy's used for excursions in the surroundings and a little nightlife,also a casino is available.
The Arenal Volcano, Fortuna and Tabacón are among the most popular destinations in Costa Rica.
Arenal Volcano

Lake Arenal
A few miles west of the Arenal Volcano, the lake Arenal was created around 1979. The reservoir derived from the energy equivalent to more than half of the current electricity in the country.
The Arenal lake is by the high wind speeds a real paradise for windsurfers.
The often represented fish species such as La Machaca and Lubina attract many anglers here.
Even woodpeckers, hummingbirds and about 300 other birds can be seen here and make the region attractive for ornithologists.
La Fortuna Waterfall
Fortuna waterfall with a drop of about 70 meters, is another attraction near Fortuna.
The waterfall is located about 5km outside the town at the foot of the dormant volcano Chato.
The hike to the waterfall from La Fortuna takes about an hour and as a reward beckons a refreshing bath at the foot of the waterfall.
Most tourists, however, proceed with the taxi to the waterfall. There are also horseback tours offered.
