I have been travelling alone to C.R. 4 years in a row. Last time for 3 months. Went to the Pacific side to caribbean and back and forth. I have never had any problems. I travel by bus just one thing if you travel by bus DO Not put anything in the over head compartment on the bus. Things disappear and these people are good no one noticed a thing. It happened a few times on my travels. Be careful use common sense you will be fine. Diana
