Let’s see, $1685 would be about $380 a week, or $20,000 a year. That would be about twice what a college professor would earn in Costa Rica. Or a little more than the government pays a doctor for working in a social security hospital, or about what a doctor in practice for himself might earn -- many earn more, that's true. I do not personally know any Tico who earns this kind of money. I do know that most of my friends do not spend nearly that much to live quite well, and we sure as heck don’t need that much!
