Hola Siren: First of all stay in Alajuela, don't go to SJO, all the car rentals are in Alajuela, and if you're arriving late, you are going to SJO for nothing. They's deliver to your place the next AM. Consider my B and B as an alternative (see website below). Re MV and Arenal. Pick one, skip the other, can't do both in 2 nights, tough drive from Arenal to MV. Also, skip Montezuma. From Tamarindo, you'd have to take the same road back, then take the ferry over to Nicoya, etc, a whole day in and out. Don't even consider driving down from Tamarindo on the coast road! Don't make reservations anywhere (except first night and last night), you may enjoy Tamarindo, explore the beaches around there, and skip Manuel Antonio altogether, leave it (and Montezuma) for the next trip.
